  • Our History    Since 1971 Lawrence Contract Furnishers has been servicing consumers, as well as commercial customers (contractors, property managers and interior designers), with the best pricing and selection in the valley. In fact, that is how Lawrence Contract Furnishers got its name. While originally selling to just consumers, commercial customers got wind of this new retail store and what it had to offer. It wasn’t long before these commercial customers were knocking on the door as well with significant amounts of business. After 29 years, the store is still meeting the needs of both consumers and commercial customers.

    Lawrence Contract Furnishers was started by Lawrence (or better known as Larry) Goldberg after successfully running a chain of five furnishings stores called Design Interiors. The largest of the five stores was located in San Jose with 30,000 square feet of showroom space. The lessons Larry learned from this chain of stores gave him an idea! He had a desire to fulfill a need for those consumers that couldn’t afford to pay regular retail price for their furnishings, window, wall and floor coverings. Yet, these consumers wanted selection! As a result, Larry scaled down the business. He opened a new store with a showroom of carpet samples and catalogs for just about anything anyone ever needed! That’s where Lawrence Contract Furnishers had its beginning. In 1973, Larry moved the business to a larger facility in an industrial park with 12,000 square feet of showroom space to feature not only carpet, but furniture and window and wall coverings as well!

    We have been able to maintain very competitive pricing by relying on customer referrals. We spend very little on advertising, we maintain a store in an unconventional retail area, we buy direct from the manufacturers, and we hire non-commissioned sales people. Because Larry has been in the business for over 35 years, he has been able to establish and maintain business relationships with most of the major manufacturers thereby offering a wide selection of high quality products at competitive pricing to his customers to this day.

    As Lawrence Contract Furnishers is a family-owned and operated business, Larry’s son, Michael, joined the store in 1978 after graduating from UCLA. Michael grew up in the business from the age of 10 years. Upon joining the family business, Michael immediately took over all buying for the store in addition to handling the day-to-day operations with his father. Additionally, Michael handles all the commercial customers personally.

    Over the years Lawrence Contract Furnishers has established itself as a reputable business. As proof, we recently were Value Star Certified! Seventy-one of our customers were randomly contacted by this independent organization and interviewed. Ninety-four percent of the customers were thoroughly satisfied with the service, selection and pricing they received from Lawrence Contract Furnishers! Additionally, we are a member of the National Home Furnishings Association, the Northern California Flooring Association and the World Floor Covering Association.
